CEO OF BRENG WAS A SPEAKER AT THE BRAZILIAN SCHOOL OF HIPERSONIC PROPULSION ASPIRED Published: 05/20/2019 From May 13 to 17, 2019 at UFRN - Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, located in the city of Natal-RN, 1st Brazilian School of Hypersonic Aspirated Propulsion aiming to promote open discussion among Research Institutions, Academy and Industry around the world that develop Research and Development of enabling technologies for high speed (hypersonic) aerospace vehicle flight in the dense atmosphere of Planet Earth, aiming to access to space. Thus, the CEO of BRENG, Dr. Felipe Jean da Costa was invited by the organizing committee of the 1st Brazilian School of Hypersonic Aspirated Propulsion to give lecture on May 16 on issues related to the thermo-structural analysis of scramjet integrated vehicles, materials of thermal protection for vehicles in hypersonic speed and numerical studies applied in aerospace vehicles at hypersonic speed (scramjet).
Dr. Felipe Jean was one of the five Brazilian experts invited and lectured on his more than 11 years of experience in the field of Aspirated Hypersonic Propulsion, within the 14-X program under development by the Aeronautics Command, where he developed mechanical device designs for operation of hypersonic shock tunnels from Professor Henry T. Nagamatsu's Aerotermodynamic and Hypersonic Laboratory, as well as small-scale, full-scale, demonstration aerospace hypersonic vehicles for test in hypersonic and atmospheric flight tunnels. He also developed operating activities for hypersonic shock tunnels. He participated in the projects: hypersonic vehicles in atmospheric reentry, technological demonstrators with system of propulsion to the combustion supersonic and technological demonstrators with system of propulsion to laser. He also participated in the Scramjet 14-X Technological Demonstrator Research Project, which aims at atmospheric flight at an altitude of 30 km at speeds corresponding to Mach numbers 7 to 10.
The lecture was based on the Thermo-Structural Analysis of the Scramjet 14-X Waverider, addressing the history of the aerospace industry, types of propulsion systems, the principles of the development cycle of an aerospace product, from its conceptual phase, combining the requirements for the structural configuration of the vehicle, the preliminary selection of structural materials and for the thermal protection system, experimental investigation, theoretical-analytical analysis and numerical analysis.
By the initiative of the Post-Graduation Program in Mechanical Engineering (PPG-EM), the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) and the School of Sciences and Technology (ECT), Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), the School Brazilian company in Hypersonic Aspirated Propulsion was created aiming at not only the formation of human resources in Brazil, but also follow the critical technologies, in progress around Planet Earth, in the area of Aerospace Vehicle Design and advanced Aspirated Propulsion Systems applied at speeds hypersonic. In this first edition, the Brazilian School in Vacuum Hypersonic Propulsion aims to train Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students, Academy and Industry Professionals, and New Doctors in the Hypersonic knowledge frontier area, applied in current aero-thermodynamic projects aerospace hypersonic vehicles and hypersonic vehicles integrated with advanced hypersonic propulsion systems based on supersonic combustion (scramjet technology). Aiming the transfer of scramjet technology to the Brazilian academy and industry, 10 PhD researchers, 5 Foreign Speakers and 5 Brazilian Speakers, were invited to teach lectures on topics: hypersonic (analytical, numerical and experimental) fundamentals, conceptual technological demonstration of scramjet propulsion system, numerical studies applied in aerospace vehicles at scramjet speed, experimental investigation in hypersonic laboratory devices (tubes and shock tunnels), diagnostic techniques applied to experimental research, thermo- structural design of scramjet integrated vehicles, and thermal protection materials for vehicles at hypersonic speed.
For the BRENG CEO, Dr. Felipe Jean, the event promoted a wide debate both in the national sphere of initiatives to obtain technological independence in the area of Hypersonic Propulsion Aspired for access to space, as well as in the international sphere through specialists from different countries which lead the same lines of research. The event brings with it a very important legacy, because it is the first school held in Brazil, and for providing a rich interaction between undergraduate and graduate students and renowned specialists in national and international context, he says.
