In the NASA International Journey Program, 14-17 year olds experience a week of immersion at the Center for Space Education (NASA). The agenda is very diverse and encompasses robotics classes, space science program, meetings with NASA engineers and astronauts and engineers from other aerospace companies, university visits, interaction with local youths on visits to High Schools, Fab Lab, among others. other activities.
YOUNG SPACE PROGRAM - INTERNATIONAL
In September 2018, BRENG's CEO, Dr. Felipe Jean, traveled to Orlando-FL in the United States to present scientific papers at one of the world's most important Aerospace Congresses, the 22nd AIAA International Space Plans and Hypersonics Systems and Technologies Conference . Taking advantage of the proximity to Cape Canaveral, Dr. Philip Jean visited, on invitation, visited the facilities of NASA at the Kennedy Space Center, where he was received by the Director of Space Education of NASA. During the visit was presented the training program called International Journey, where students from around the world are doing a scientific and technological immersion at NASA. It has been reported that Brazil sends very few students, only from private schools, because of language and financial barriers compared to India, where the government funds nearly 8,000 students to take part in International Journey every year.
PREPARATION FOR NASA INTERNATIONAL JOURNEY
Aiming at better preparing Brazilian public school students, but not impeding private schools, which are planning to embark on NASA International Journey, BRENG has developed a 6-month training and mentoring program called the Young Space Program, where the objective is to train students in the areas of STEM, through courses in Aeronautical Familiarization, Technical Mechanical Design and Introduction to Robotics. In addition, an English training approaching conversational and technical (instrumental) English with terms used in the aerospace industry, aims to minimize the students' lag in relation to the English language, thus allowing them to have a better use and experience during their stay at NASA.
